Ambassadors for Health

Here we go - the Albumen Games are about to begin!

A Challenge

Finally the day came for the Albumen Games. The Eggs, along with the other volunteers, were at the park early setting everything up. Benedict really wanted to play tennis, but Jojo reminded him that he was there to help with the games, not play them. But she saw the disappointment on his face and challenged him to a quick game of tennis before the spectators began arriving.

Benedict was thrilled and grabbed a tennis racket. Jojo gave the first serve, but Benedict could not return the ball. She hit the ball with such a force that he did not even see it fly by him! Much of the game was the same and Jojo beat Benedict 40-Love. He was defeated but impressed with her tennis abilities. She admitted she used to play on a semi-pro team! Benedict said he wished he would have known that beforehand! They both shared a laugh.

A Full Park!

As the noon hour approached, the people from Albumen began to flood into the park. They were so excited to participate and watch the first ever Albumen Games! Different stations were set up around the park; cycling, archery, weightlifting, the mile run, etc. Each of the Eggs were helping at the various events. The afternoon continued with lively cheers and exciting finishes in each event. As the evening drew near, the Mayor of Albumen was getting ready to hand out the medals.

Just then, Seggourney spotted Ms. Poach walking into the park! The Eggs ran to greet her. She was off of her walker and on a cane now. "And soon I won't need this cane any longer, either!" They all hugged and helped her to a seat on the bleachers as they watched the Mayor hand out the medals. "What a marvelous event - I am so proud of you Eggs!" she exclaimed.

After the crowds left, the Eggs stayed to help clean up the park. They were exhausted after the long day, but knew they did a good thing to help their town with health and wellness.

Connecting to the World

The Eggs gave some thought to connecting this service to the world. They told Ms. Poach that they were in contact with Angelo and Margherita from Italy and their Zia Ida was creating a healthy cooking cookbook that they could sell and give the proceeds to the rehab center at the hospital. Ms. Poach was again very proud of the Eggs and congratulated them on a job well done!

Family Activity

Say yes to healthy eating and exercise. It's a great way to stay fit and create healthy habits! And remember - our kids will always follow our example!

  • Try creating a regular time to exercise with your kids. Taking a walk, playing a sport or even doing some fun aerobics can create some great together-time while staying healthy! You may even find a passion for a certain sport or exercise!

  • Have your kids create their own healthy recipe cookbook - make sure to try them out, too!

I hope you enjoyed this service project - next month we will explore a new one!

Happy Summer!

Wishing you all GOOD things,

Sandy
