Ambassadors for Health

Welcome back! The Eggs are deep into the planning of the Albumen Games! And they are also anxious to check on Ms. Poach!

Jojo and Team

After school one day, a team from Albumen Hospital met with the Eggs to assist them with organizing the Albumen Games. They wanted to make sure that the Eggs organized a program that would provide the most benefit to the town.

Jojo, the head of the team, introduced everyone and then got started. She pulled out an itinerary highlighting the events that would take place at the Albumen Games; weightlifting, run the mile, cycling, swimming, archery and tennis. "Wow, that's a lot of stuff!" exclaimed Benedict. "Can we do all that?"

Jojo assured Benedict that all the events would be played. Volunteers from the hospital would be on hand to help. She then assigned each of them to a particular event. She also asked the Eggs to promote the event by making flyers and getting the other students and their parents involved. The Eggs were more than willing to help and got started right away! Greggory even organized an exercise program for the kids at school to help them get in shape for the Games!

Visiting Ms. Poach

As the weeks passed, the Eggs were just about ready for the Albumen Games. However, they were missing Ms. Poach and asked Jojo if they could visit her. Jojo arranged for the Eggs to see her on a day she came to the hospital for rehab. When Ms. Poach saw the Eggs, she smiled as wide as the ocean! She was overjoyed to see them!

As she was doing her rehab, Ms. Poach asked the therapist if the Eggs could help assist. She explained that their Ambassador Program service project this month focused on health and wellness, and that this would be a perfect opportunity for them. The therapist agreed and showed the Eggs how the particular movements he was doing was helping the patients. The therapist then had the Eggs spread out to the patients and assist the other therapists with their rehab. They were thrilled to be assisting people recover and promised to come back again to help.

Exercise and Nutrition

During the last week leading up to the Albumen Games, the exercise class Greggory organized met twice. Jojo was on hand to help lead the exercise. She even hung up a nutrition chart showing the proper servings for each food group. The class was a success and everyone was ready for the games to begin on Saturday!

Family Activity

Many will admit that our children’s generation have it a lot tougher when it comes to staying active. They have so many options and distractions, many of which require little physical movement. When many of us recall our own childhood, we remember how active we were. We played hard outside until we were told to come in, and even then begged to stay out longer. With the electronic revolutions, the only body parts that seem to get excessive exercise anymore are our fingers and eyeballs, whether through texting, posting, or playing video games.

We all know we have the power to change that, not only for our children, but for ourselves as well. It may take some discipline, but we know we can turn off any device and get active at any time. What a difference it would make in all of our lives!

  • After you found the nutritional value of food from last time, challenge your kids to eat as much nutritional food as possible. Then go to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) special children’s website called Choose My Plate, www.myplate.gov, which has all kinds of learning activities and interactive games. And be sure to take a look at the food pyramid!

The Games begin next time we meet! : )

Wishing you all GOOD things,

Sandy
