Ambassadors for Animals

Hi Everyone! I hope you are making your way through these cold winter months (unless you're one of the lucky ones that has warm weather all year 'round!) Let's see what the Eggs are up to as they continue to serve the AAR (Albumen Animal Rescue).

Touring the AAR

As the Eggs continued their tour with Dr. Jesegga, she explained all the aspects of the AAR. First, she brought the group to the animal adoption center. The animals were barking and meowing loudly - hoping to be adopted! Dr. Jesegga also explained to Megg that this was the room where Snowball would be looked after. "Oh, I sure hope I get to adopt her," Megg replied.

"Do all these animals need to be adopted?" asked Greggory.

Dr. Jesegga said yes and pointed out to the Eggs that there are a lot of stray animals that need a loving home. This gave them an idea! "Maybe we can have an animal adoption drive! We can take pictures of the animals here and hang them up to see if any students would be interested in adopting them!" All the Eggs loved Greggory's idea and wanted to start working on it right away.

The tour continued with a stop at the veterinary clinic and operating room. "Whoa - this is amazing," said Benedict. "Is this a REAL operating room?" Dr. Jesegga smiled and assured Benedict it was a REAL hospital for animals. He was impressed!

The last stop on the tour was the supply room. The shelving units along the walls were partly filled with pet food, flea collars, leashes, toys, pet beds, and other essentials for the animals. Dr. Jesegga explained that their donations were getting dangerously low, which gave the Eggs another idea - a pet supplies drive at school!

Daisy

Just as the tour ended, Coach Flo came running into the AAR with a puppy in her arms. She was out of breath as she explained. She was on her way to join the group for the tour, when she spotted a little puppy running through the snow - the funny thing was that she had a dream the night before about this same puppy! She just had to pick her up and bring her to the AAR.

Megg told Coach Flo about her experience with Snowball. They both agreed to support each other through the next 30 days until they find out if they could be the owners of these two sweet animals. The wait was going to be sooo hard!

Family Activity

Seeing, hearing about, and maybe even caring for neglected or abused animals may seem like something we would want to shelter our children from, but this can actually be another great teaching tool to help our children understand the reality of neglect in our world, not just of animals and pets, but of people, too. Using the abuse of animals as an example of the seriousness of abuse, can also be an excellent opportunity to teach our children the problem of abuse. It cannot only teach our children how wrong abuse is, but also can help them know the signs of abuse as well as teach them to never be abusive in any way, to anything or anybody.

  • Visit the Humane Society website (www.humanesociety.org) for all kinds of useful information on animal care, abuse, and neglect. There are tons of resources including videos to help teach all of us about the humane treatment of animals. Share a video or two with your kids!

Next time, the Eggs wrap up their service to the AAR, but not without some important (and scary) moments!

See you then!

Wishing you all GOOD things,

Sandy
